Work experience:
John is a lecturer in Ecology and Environmental Sciences with 4.5 years experience teaching both undergraduate and masters students. His teaching is focused on topics of sustainability, the environment and integrated conservation. John is also a researcher having worked on the ecology and conservation of orangutans in Indonesia and is now working on the conservation of Japanese giant salamanders with collaborators from Japan and China and involved in an international task force for the conservation of East Asian Salamanders with the IUCN. Prior to his teaching role John has worked in Ecological Consulting working on major projects such as HS2 and Viking Link and also worked in international conservation at Chester Zoo and with the IUCN supporting conservation work throughout South East Asia for wild cattle species.

Coaching experience:
In addition to his teaching and research, John is passionate about coaching and mentoring. Employability and helping students find where they can apply their skills and passion in a meaningful career is both one of John’s passions and part of his day job! As a lecturer he provides his students with support in identifying career paths and opportunities, CV and cover letter writing advice and refinement and interview preparation. His experience from his non-traditional career path and links within the Higher Education sector allows him to effectively guide students, encouraging them to think outside the box in terms of careers and create solid plans as to what skills they need to develop and how to get to where they want to be
